In March of this year, I was asked to create a custom invitation for a first birthday party for a sweet little boy named Owen.
Lauren, Owen's mom, was looking for a design that featured watercolored balloons in a cheerful, but muted, color palette including blues, tans, and oranges. She also wanted to include a special request for guests to bring books instead of toys.
When I'm working with a client on a custom piece like this, I like to provide a variety of first drafts. This allows the client to really hone in on the colors, fonts, and other design choices that they like and those that they don't.
In the case of Owen's birthday invitation, I opted to provide simple and static layouts as well as more dynamic designs with layered balloons:
From there, Lauren chose her favorite layout, and I adjusted colors to align with her vision and fine-tuned the wording and spacing.
I absolutely love the final result and thought it balanced the classy aesthetic Lauren was going for with a playfulness that's appropriate for a young child's birthday party.
When asked about her experience working with MJC, Lauren has this to say about the process:
"Michelle was incredibly easy to work with, detailed oriented, and truly listened to my overall vision. I chose to have my son's birthday invitations custom created because I felt like that was another personal sentimental touch that would further enhance a core memory for our family. You have a piece of art that is connected to a real person that took the time to build something beautiful rather than a standard template from an automated platform. It's a memento that will last for years to come."

To customize this design with your own details, purchase the template on the MJC Print Shop on Etsy.
If you're looking to create a unique design for your upcoming event, I can help with that too. The benefit of working with me directly on a new design like Lauren did is that you can customize the language, font choices, colors, and spacing to fit your specific vision.
Although 2022 is booked for custom orders, I am now taking orders for February 2023 and beyond. Contact Michelle Junot Creative today to learn more and get your free quote!
